1 I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; ♦︎
before the gods will I sing praise to you.
2 I will bow down towards your holy temple and praise your name,
because of your love and faithfulness; ♦︎
for you have glorified your name
and your word above all things.
3 In the day that I called to you, you answered me; ♦︎
you put new strength in my soul.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord, ♦︎
for they have heard the words of your mouth.
5 They shall sing of the ways of the Lord, ♦︎
that great is the glory of the Lord.
6 Though the Lord be high, he watches over the lowly; ♦︎
as for the proud, he regards them from afar.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you will preserve me; ♦︎
you will stretch forth your hand against the fury of my enemies;
your right hand will save me.
8 The Lord shall make good his purpose for me; ♦︎
your loving-kindness, O Lord, endures for ever;
forsake not the work of your hands.

7 The Israelites did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, forgetting the Lord their God, and worshipping the Baals and the Asherahs. 8Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram-naharaim; and the Israelites served Cushan-rishathaim for eight years. 9But when the Israelites cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for the Israelites, who delivered them, Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. 10The spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel; he went out to war, and the Lord gave King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim. 11So the land had rest for forty years. Then Othniel son of Kenaz died.

42 At daybreak he departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowds were looking for him; and when they reached him, they wanted to prevent him from leaving them. 43But he said to them, ‘I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.’ 44So he continued proclaiming the message in the synagogues of Judea.*
